Prairie Stitchers Needlework ExhibitionCounted Cross Stitch
(January 8 to February 27, 2011)

The Prairie Stitchers chapter of the Embroidery Guild of America presented new work completed in the past year at the Dacotah Prairie Museum. The featured the exciting work of eight local members.

Some of the techniques involved in these outstanding samples of needlework were: embroidery, pulled thread, hardanger, counted cross-stitch, blackwork and Brazilian embroidery. The members are devoted to preserving the heritage of embroidery as an art form for future generations.casalquidi

The Prairie Stitchers were organized in 1990 and meet the first Tuesday of each month to work on projects, learn new stitches and share patterns and ideas. Membership is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. In addition, group works on a “stitch of the month” provided by the National Guild of America to further the educational aspect of the group’s purpose.

Members providing work for this exhibit are: Mikki Fried, Jean Schaffer, Patti Lipp, Laura Kramp, Marie Sternhagen, Nancy Riggenberg, and Michelle Kingery. Blackwork heart

The Stitchers also have composed a basket overflowing with beautiful needlecraft to give away. Chances are $1 at the front desk of the museum. The basket if full of embroidered towels, bookmarks, framed pictures, tree ornaments, napkins, table runners, and window hangings. The basket will be given away the last day of the exhibit, you need not be present to win.
