Stitching Through the Holidays
(November 1 - 30, 2011)
Holiday spirit was in the air at the Dacotah Prairie Museum thanks to the Prairie Stitchers Needlework Guild. The 2nd floor of the Museum was transformed by pumpkins, black cats, turkeys and pies, colored leaves, sleigh bells and holly, and St. Patrick’s green of Ireland! The Holidays were on parade in the form of exquisite stitching and needle arts. Included were framed wall hangings, ornaments, stockings, quilt blocks, bell pulls, and table runners.
The exhibit, “Stitching through the Holidays” was open until Wednesday, November 30, 2012. The stitchers who presented the best of Holiday Seasons this year were: Patti Lipp, Jean Schaffer, Michelle Kingery, Laura Kramp, Mikki Fried, Nancy Criddle, Trudy Anderson, and Marie Sternhagen. These Stitchers belong to the local chapter of the National Needlework Guild of America, the organization that provides a “stitch of the month” to further the educational aspect of the group’s purpose.
The Prairie Stitchers were formed in 1990 and meet the first Tuesday of each month to work on projects, learn new stitches, and share patterns and ideas. Membership is open to everyone, regardless of skill level. The group is devoted to preserving the heritage of needlework as an art form for future generations.
The Dacotah Prairie Museum is open Tuesday-Friday, 9-5 and Saturday-Sunday, 1-4. Everyone is welcome.
