All I Want For Christmas.......Toy Exhibits
(This exhibit displayed from November 20, 2007 to February 10, 2008)
Did you know that children in 1903 could ask for the new drawing sensation "Crayola Crayons" for the first time at Christmas? And who would believe that LEGO creations have been tantalizing imaginations since Christmas, 1930? Does it seem that Mr. Potato Head (1952), Play-Doh (1955), and Matchbox Cars (1954) have been around more than 50 years?
The Dacotah Prairie Museum has two new exhibits that opened this week designed to bring out the child in all of us. They are located on the 2nd floor of the Museum and in the 1st Avenue window next to the main entrance and are entitled "All I Want For Christmas.......Toy Exhibits". The exhibit inside the Museum is open between November 20, 2007, and February 10, 2008. The window portion will close on January 5th, 2008.
The Museum is pleased to have the opportunity to showcase some of our truly memorable artifacts from our toy collection. Included in the exhibit of what you would love to see on Christmas morning are: an Erector Building Set by BRIO Corporation originally released in 1913, a beautiful Shirley Temple (America's Sweetheart!) Doll from the 1950s, Cabbage Patch Kids from 1983, and an original Atari Game System - the grandfather of today's gaming systems- in mint condition.
The featured toys and games range from timeless sleds and skates to board-games, wind-up toys and toy stoves that cook! Your Christmas celebration will not be complete this year without a trip to the Dacotah Prairie Museum to stroll through Christmas Tree Lane, also on 2nd floor, and enjoy "All I Want For Christmas....the Toy Exhibit"!
