Blue Stars Exhibit
Photographer, Greg Latza, has created a stirring stirring
tribute to South Dakota’s World
War II veterans, first in a book entitled, Blue
Stars.
The exhibit entitled “Blue
Stars: A Selection of Stories from South Dakota’s
World War II Veterans” featured 44 stories and photo portraits of veterans
highlighted in the book.
The exhibit is sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank and traveled throughout South Dakota and was displayed in Wells Fargo communities for 14 months. The exhibit came to Aberdeen from the South Dakota State Fair. A smaller version of the display was available in Wells Fargo
locations in northeast South Dakota for eight weeks. Dennis
Thompson, community banking president of Wells Fargo in Aberdeen said of the
exhibit: “There is no way to adequately
thank our country’s veterans for the sacrifices they made 60 years ago and as
years pass, we lose more opportunities to honor them. It is our hope this exhibit touched the
greatest generation as well as the current generations on the home front with
family and friends serving in the military and fighting overseas.”
Photographer, Greg Latza, grew up on a farm near Letcher and
earned journalism and geography degrees from SDSU. He worked as a photojournalist in Minnesota,
Wisconsin and Kansas prior to returning to his home state in 1994 to join the staff of the Sioux
Falls Argus
Leader. He and his wife started
PeopleScapes, a freelance photography and graphic design company, in Sioux
Falls and have published four other books besides Blue Stars
