You don’t take a photograph. You ask quietly to borrow it

The Dacotah Prairie Museum featured an exhibit entitled, “You don’t take a photograph. You ask quietly to borrow it.” The exhibit was presented by the students of Aberdeen Central High School’s “Basic Black & White Photography” class under the direction of Jennifer Deutsch, photography teacher and was displayed through May 17, 2006.

The display included a quotation that inspired the student’s work, along with a black and white photograph he or she has taken. The students used a standard 35mm camera and employed the essentials of composition design in their choices. Then they experienced basic dark room procedures of working with chemicals, papers, negatives and special effects to develop them. The 9-week photography class was completed with a digital photo shoot experience using Adobe Photoshop to alter the photo taken. For their photo shoots, these students have gone into the community of Aberdeen and focused on creative angles, portraits, motion, depth of field, still life and landscape.

The Museum welcomed the new artists involved in this exhibit: Rachel Stokes, Ashley Kintz, Dustin Belden, Deidra Turman, Tyler Vance, Jason Bickel, Brandon Bauer, Steve Devoe, Tyler Williams, Andrea Sjomeling, Krystina Spitzer, Amanda Jacobs, Becca DeVaney, Corbin Surat, Collin Heupel, Jordan McQuillen, Terra Gillis, Amy Palmer, Alex Jones, Abby Boschee, Jessica Grismer, Jessica Doerr, Samantha Glover, Forrest Scott, Tom Wager, Leah Davis, Sarah Haberling, Kayla Beard, Alesa Burgard, Josh Melby, Emily Geffre, Alex Dolney, Maggie Thorpe, Ian Wilson, Michael Babcock, Claire Campbell, Kaylee Ebach, Mandy Scepaniak, and Allison Appletoft.
