Hatterscheidt Wildlife Gallery
The Hatterscheidt Wildlife Gallery, on the Museum's
first floor, features over 55 mounted specimens from North America, Africa
and India.
In this room are mounted animals from four regions. They include the Arctic, North America, Africa and India. The mural depicts one day in the life of the earth, beginning with midnight over the Himalayas and Mount Everest on the east wall. The animals are mounted at their actual height. The dominant figure in the room, the African Elephant, weighed approximately 7 tons and stood 11’3” at the shoulder. The dik-diks are fully grown specimens, and the smallest of the antelope family.
